Taking the CompTIA Security+ exam was a nerve-wracking yet exhilarating experience. The exam itself was challenging, with a wide range of topics covered, from network security to cryptography. Time seemed to fly by as I carefully analyzed each question and provided my best answers. Reflecting upon the experience, I realized that regardless of the outcome, the journey of preparing for the exam had already broadened my understanding of cybersecurity principles and enhanced my professional growth.
My Exam Preparation and tips:
I studied for 1 week and signed up to take the exam the following week. This gave me a little less that 2 weeks in total to cover as much material as possible. I have been in IT for 5+ years so I did not need as much study time as someone would with zero IT experience. I mainly watched videos on YouTube and LinkedIn Learning. I did purchase a book from Amazon, but that was mainly to have access to the practice tests. I recommend you take a practice test to map your current knowledge before deciding on learning methods/materials. This will come in handy when studying as you can focus on the particular Security+ objectives that you may be weak on. Lastly, force yourself to a deadline. What worked for me was to take a practice test to see how far off I was, and then immediately purchase a voucher and schedule the exam. This locked me financially and most of us are more than likely to accomplish something that we have invested money into.
